What is biomass?

WHAT DID YOU KNOW ABOUT BIOMASS??

BIOMASS is biological material derived from living or living organisms. This is often used to mean plant based material, but biomass can equally apply to both animal and vegetable derived material.

BIOMASS GASIFICATION

This is a little bit of biomass gasification explanation:

  1. Biomass Gasifier Chamber have drying, pyrolysis, reduction and combustion process. in this chamber, the first thing take place is driving off water-vapors in the biomass.
  2. Pyrolysis is take place after drying process which the temperature increase (1200 - 1400 oC, the dry biomass decomposes into organics, vapor, gases, carbon (char) and tars.
  3. The reduction process occurs which water vapor reacts with carbon that producing hydrogen gas, carbon monoxide and methane. then, carbon dioxide reacts with another carbon to produce more carbon monoxide.
  4. When more carbon monoxide produce, they will go down to combustion process. some of the char and tars burn with oxygen from air to give heat and carbon dioxide. This heat enables the other stages of the gasification process to take place
  5. The gas produced goes to steam chamber where there is boiler. The boiler that creates heat, it will heat the steam chamber and the gas will move to the steam turbine.
  6. The turbine will rotate and spinning continuously and it will spin the rotor in the generator that will generate electricity.
  7. The electricity is connected directly to main power supply plant and distribute and transmit the electricity to the customer houses and building using a step down transformer.
